Random v Blocked Training
Decision making training is the new form of training style that is fun, challenging and prepares players better for games.
Blocked training is a form of skills training that isolates certain skills. Blocked training performs the skill over and over with very little variation or resistance. Ideal for really young players. Random training on the other hand incorporates decision making into every drill adding another layer of complexity. The random element forces players to think on their toes which is more game like. This enables players to retain newly learnt skills better and have the confidence to do these in a real game.
There has been a big shift from Basketball Australia to be 'comfortable with the mess' and this is because basketball is not about lining up at cones and moving from point A to point B.
